The Gulf Canada Series will be making its west coast trip through Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to host its next three races. On June 22, only three Formula A vehicles started at Edmonton International Raceway. Al Pease, who would have been the fourth driver, opted to withdraw from the series with an oil leak. Eleven Formula A cars remained in the field. George Eaton opted to leave the series to concentrate his efforts on other series. We will be looking at the drivers and cars who have made this series one if the most exciting and competitive in recent years.

Eppie Wietzes

Eppie Wietzes, a Canadian racing icon, drove every vehicle with four wheels, from an Austin A40 engine-powered Morris Minor up to Formula One cars. He was also a competitor in Formula 5000 and won Trans-Am in a Corvette in 1981. Eppie Wietzes was elected into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the sport. But his time in motorsport was very brief.

Bill Brack

Bill Brack was a Toronto native who began racing in early 1960s. He raced in Mini Coopers on ice and won four races. Later, Brack competed in the Formula A/5000 Championship, driving a Lotus 70-Chevrolet and winning four races. Brack moved to the United States in 1967 and raced Lotus cars. He won the Eastern Championship in 1968 with a Lotus 49B Cosworth.

Paul Rawlinson

The Lucid is the outcome of an obsession about weight reduction. It will be powered by an electric motor. Tyler Schilling was one of the customers who reserved a Lucid car at the launch. He drove it around California's coast roads. The Lucid currently has over 17,000 reservations and will produce 20,000 cars next season. Road & Track is positive that the concept is a success. But how will it do?


Ron Tauranac

Ron Tauranac, the legendary racecar designer, has died at the age 95 on January 10, 2018. Tauranac co-founded Brabham Racing Developments and Motor Racing Developments, and his designs won two Formula One World Championships: the 1967 and 1966 models. Tauranac's cars were modified by many car companies including Lotus, Ferrari and Maserati. Although Tauranac's track record was impressive, his greatest achievement was the 1968 British Formula One title.

The DN6 5000

CRL Historic Race Sim Developments have announced the Shadow DN-6 Formula 5000 Race car. Based on Tony Southgate's design, it used the same production-based engine as the DN5 F1 race car. It also had a Hewland TL200 gearbox, instead of the DG. Nevertheless, it was a far cry from the F5000 cars. However, its design was very similar to that of the DN5 F1.

McLaren M10B

McLaren's M10B is one of the earliest examples of McLaren’s evolution. It debuted in 1973. However, it did not see any significant action until 1975. It had only been raced four more times and had been purchased by 21 different customers. It was a highly-successful car that won two championships. McLaren made it one the most sought after and most successful McLaren cars.

The Ford Ecoboost engine

The 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine from Ford's new Focus and Fiesta has been modified to become the driving power of the Formula Ford race car. Ford engineers predict that the engine will generate over 200 horsepower and a six speed manual transmission. According to Ford engineers, the Ford EcoBoost can accelerate from 0-60 mph in less that four seconds. Ford EcoBoost is so powerful it can even compete with Lamborghini and Ferrari for the title of fastest road vehicle on Nurburgring.
