Bill Van Allen

Van Allen was an exceptional racecar driver throughout his entire career. His success as a stock car driver was fueled by his ability to win races. He won his first feature race at the Raceway on August 25, 1950. Van Allen then won the 60-lap season finale on September 29. Van Allen defeated Bud Koehler and Don Odell to win the 300-lap main event of Speedway on October 14.

Harry Simonsen

Harry Simonsen, NASCAR 1960 champion, is a famous driver and mechanic from Chicago. He owns a car parts business and has competed in several NASCAR races. His mechanical skills and driving ability have earned him many victories. He has won 35 features on the Raceway Park oval as well as several races in the Midwest.

Leroy Warriner

Warriner's racing career was shaped by the race he won in Indiana two years before his retirement. He was a member of the Indiana fan clubs and had won a local race. He was also a frequent visitor to the track, and even attended fan meetings. After many years living in Florida keys, he eventually returned to Indianapolis.


Richard Petty

Richard Petty won the NASCAR 1960 Championship in spectacular fashion at Texas World Speedway. The driver qualified in seventh position ahead of two others. The race was a controversial one characterized by lead changes and intentional teamwork. Richard Petty finished No. Rex White, a 2nd qualifier, took the lead in the first laps but lost momentum after hitting a large Turn 1 pothole. Petty drove past White, taking the lead and clinching his first win of his career.

Geoffrey Bodine

Geoffrey Bodine has been called a racing legend in America. He is a former Modified top driver and has won six Busch Grand Nationals. Bodine moved from upstate New York to Richmond, where he parked the motorhome close to Zervakis. They soon became a dominant force at the weekly Late Model Sportsman circuits, both in Virginia and North Carolina. Bodine won numerous races, and eventually got his first taste of Cup Series competition.

Junior Johnson

In 1955, Junior Johnson's NASCAR career began. He won five races and was sixth in the Grand National standings. He won six races, earning the pole position for the Hickory 250 in 1958. He won six more races and was named the pole champion of the Hickory 250 in 1959.
