The First Racing Car

dtm racing meaning

Although it didn't win any races, the pioneering achievements of the first racing car are still well-known. The spirit that inspired Count De Dion, the magazine editor-in-chief, and the car's engineer is still present in today's Formula One and NASCAR events. It also lives on in all motorsports races.

Toyopet Racer

The Toyopet Racer was the first racing car that Toyota built. It was made five years following the end of World War II. Everything in Japan was under the control of the General Headquarters during those years. Before they could manufacture their automobiles, automakers had to obtain permits. After 1948, the automobile industry in Japan began to suffer from a serious recession. In response, General Headquarters implemented a new policy called the Dodge Line. This led to a financial crisis unprecedented in its magnitude, and caused automakers to layoff employees.

Toyopet Racer was an hand-built racing car, inspired by European racing cars. It was built using a ladder-frame chassis. The engine was a 995cc Toyota Type S diesel engine. The car was intended for unpaved roads and was designed for speed rather than agility. Initial plans for six cars were made by KiichiroToyoda. Additional to the race car and two versions of Toyopet Racer, two other Toyota regional dealerships made them.

Henry Ford's racecar

Henry Ford started his auto racing career with a two-cylinder race car. Alexander Winton won a Michigan racing race where Winton's engine had failed. This victory helped Henry Ford finance his second auto company. Ford Motor Company eventually emerged from this second venture.

With the assistance of Ed "Spider", Huff, Ford entered a ten-lap race in October 1901. Ford's car gained speed on straightaways and was in a position to catch Winton on the sixth lap. Winton's car began to emit visible exhaust fumes and was now experiencing serious mechanical problems.

Austin Motor Company's racing car

Austin Motor Company was the first to produce a racing car, the Austin Seven. It was built in 1931. The car was popular with amateur motor racing drivers with limited resources. Austin later fell out with the Vickers brothers over engine design and left the Wolseley company. Frank Kayser a financier supported him. Austin eventually started his own business in the automobile industry.

The Austin Seven had a top speed of about 40 mph, a high fuel economy, and large skinny wheels. The car was also lightweight, weighing only 425 kg, which made it a great candidate for competition. It won more than 200 motor racing races.
