NASCAR Points Leaders

race tracks of the world

After a weekend full of action, it's time for us to examine the nascar point leaders. Which drivers are now in the lead? Will the rest of the field catch up? We'll examine Chase Elliott, William Byron and Ross Chastain as well Martin Truex Jr. Who are the other drivers who lead the points? Which driver is the favourite for the title? Who will be the next race winner?

Joe Kosiski

Joe Kosiski still holds the NASCAR points title at Oglethorpe's Division II races. Shane Riner is still his closest rival and Eric Humphries are also in his sights. Riner won his sixth race at Oglethorpe. He now has 790 points. Humphries is currently on 592 points. Kosiski's streak omitting poor finishes for a long time has ended.

Kosiski was a Dodge Weekly Series National Champion twice. He won the Division title in 1986, and the NDWS Championship in 2000. He also has an unrecord eight top-five finishes. He is currently the points leader at two tracks. Shane Riner, Pete Anderson Jr. (NDWS Division II), are the other drivers in this division.

Shane Riner

Shane Riner, a Late Model driver from Guyton, Ga. is one of the top points scorers in the country. Riner holds a 44-point advantage over Joe Kosiski with five72 points. Both drivers have won races this season. Kosiski has also had one win and 10 top five finishes. Riner has more to give, as the Oglethorpe Speedway Park Late Model will be one of the newest additions in the NASCAR standings.

For several years, Riner, the father of McKenzie (aged 5), and Ashley (14), Riner has been the center of attention. Angeline, his wife is an attorney. The thrill of racing isn’t his only attraction. It's easy to understand why he continues to pursue it with his family by his side. The family's support has been a key factor in the team's success.

Joey Logano

Joey Logano has made a comeback despite a slow start to 2016. He won the pole at Martinsville, then struggled to finish outside of the top 11. Joey Logano won the Sprint Cup All-Star Race at Kansas after he lost to Talladega and Kansas. He then went on to win the FireKeepers Casino 400, before finishing 40th at the Coke Zero 400 and finally claiming the championship at Dover.

On May 13, Logano entered the race in sixth place, but was quickly knocked back to mid-pack after a speeding penalty and cut tire. He managed to stay in the middle of the pack for the remainder of the race but crashed into Danica Patrick and Aric Almirola during the final laps. Both drivers were injured in the fiery wreck, and Logano's post-race interview was marked by tears and apprehension.

Denny Hamlin

After finishing in the top-10 at every race this season, Denny Hamlin is a logical choice to lead the nascar points championship. He has been consistent over the past few years. He won Loudon and placed fourth at New Hampshire. Since then, he has averaged a top-six finish in his career. His only loss of the year was a DNF in Dover that cost him his best finish.

Kyle Larson has been considered a contender for the NASCAR Cup Series title, but he's not been able get to the finish line since Kansas. Larson is a winner with one race, and he currently holds a tie with Hamlin for the points standings at nine17 points. Hamlin would be eliminated from the playoffs, if Larson wins the regular season points championship.
